How learning to love the process will help you achieve your goals

We can access almost everything instantly in our society.  Need an answer: Ask Siri. Need money: Go to the ATM. Want to reach out to someone: Text them.  I am aging myself here, but I remember going to the library, and looking up information in the Encyclopedia. Now we can Google everything. Don’t get me wrong, I love the convenience. But sometimes it leads to impatience. We never learn to love the process.

In my weight loss coaching career, I’m often shocked by how many people expect immediate success. The weight didn’t come on overnight but they want to eat healthy for a few days and see lasting results. When they don’t see results quickly enough, they become frustrated and want to quit.

Weight loss does not happen overnight.

You have to be consistent for an extended period of time to see results.

People gain weight over the course of many years, but they expect to lose the weight within weeks.

It simply doesn’t work that way, and any diet promising those quick results is not going to lead to lasting success.

There are no quick fixes. We need to learn to enjoy the process.

If losing weight is your goal, learn to love trying new healthy foods. Love the process of finding new recipes, of altering current favorite recipes to make them healthier, and of learning how to fit favorite foods in without guilt. When you eat right you will have more energy, not be hungry and your cravings will disappear. Enjoy that!

Learn to love being more active. Find exercises that are enjoyable to you. Don’t like going to the gym? Go for walks, join a martial arts class, do yoga in the park, swim, or take a dance class. There are so many ways to find a type of exercise you love.

Enjoy the process and the progress and don’t be solely focused on the end results.

If you are solely focused on losing weight then you will easily get discouraged, frustrated, and want to quit if you are not getting results as fast as you want. It’s all part of a bigger picture, and you need to learn to love the process and enjoy the journey!

Weight loss is about so much more than a number.

Too often people only focus on the number they see on the scale.

But it is about your health. A better immune system. More energy. Increased confidence and loving yourself enough to put yourself first and take care of yourself. When you focus on this and stay consistent, the results will come and you will enjoy the journey rather than just focusing on the final destination.

So learn to love the process

Start focusing on the journey and not the end results.

The results will follow.
