4 Tips to guarantee you stay committed on your weight loss journey
Motivation is a crucial element in making things happen.
But motivation comes and goes; we will never always be motivated.
When we lose motivation it becomes extremely difficult to achieve success and reach the goals we set.
With health and weight loss, it is imperative to stay motivated long enough to see the results.
No matter where you are on your weight loss journey, there is bound to come at least one time when your motivation dips and your frustration increases, leaving you questioning your future goals.
But the magic happens when you push through those hard times and stay consistent.
Sadly, too many people give up too early.
So, here are 4 tips to keep you motivated on your weight loss journey, so that you can achieve the success you desire and deserve.
1. KNOW YOUR WHY
Why did you start a weight loss journey? You started for a reason. Your why is what will drive you. It will keep you focused and motivated to do the work, even when you don’t feel like it. So, it is really important to connect with your deep why and reason for wanting to lose weight. (and no, it’s not just about losing a few pounds). What will the weight loss do for you? For your life? For your confidence? Dig deep and figure out WHY you started in the first place.
2. TREAT IT LIKE A LIFELONG JOURNEY AND NOT A QUICK FIX
Too many people look at weight loss as a quick fix that they have to do for a short period of time. This is one of the main reasons that diets fail. They are a short term solution, when what they need to be is a lifestyle change. It is not about restricting. It is not about forbidding certain foods or going hungry. These will all lead to failure. You need a program that teaches you HOW to eat for the rest of your life. How to fit in all of your favorite foods, how to enjoy holidays and celebrations without restriction and how to change your food mindset. My weight loss for life program teaches you how to eat real food and get real results.
3. FOCUS ON THE ACTIVITY, NOT THE OUTCOMES
One of the hardest parts of weight loss is having patience and not getting frustrated when you are not seeing the results you desire quickly enough. It’s why so many people give up too soon. We can’t control the outcomes, only the work that we do. If we focus solely on losing weight every week, it can be very frustrating when it doesn’t happen quickly enough. There are several variables with weight loss and there may be weeks where you eat great but your body is simply retaining water and the scale doesn’t reflect the loss. Instead, focus on what you CAN control and that is your daily activity! When you make better choices consistently every day, the outcomes will happen. And you can feel proud of yourself and motivated because you set an activity goal and you achieved it. For example, set a goal to exercise each day. Don’t just look at the scale. When you achieve the goal of getting in your steps, or taking an exercise class, celebrate your achievement! Practice winning by setting these daily goals and reaching them. Over time you will get the results you desire. The work you do today can take time to pay off, so learn to love the process and set activity goals that you can achieve and feel good about.
4. GET AN ACCOUNTABILITY PARTNER AND/OR COACH
Of course we want to be internally accountable and do the work we set out to do. However, it can also be human nature to not push ourselves to our true limits. Having an accountability partner or a nutrition coach will help you to stay focused, driven and motivated, even in the hard times. A good partner can help you make progress toward your goals, push you more than you might push yourself and make the journey more fun and enjoyable It is a partnership where you mutually agree to support each other, provide feedback and work through challenges together.
