How to Get Unstuck

Every business has ebb and flow. It’s normal to have slow times or periods where you just feel stuck. Although this is not unexpected, it’s not usually welcome. If you are not moving forward in business and stay stuck for too long, you will eventually start to slide backwards.

So, what can you do when you are in a slump?

  1. The first thing to realize is that feeling stuck is a FEELING, not a fact.

When we feel stuck, our first instinct is to look outside of ourselves for someone or something to blame. But the truth is that we need to look inward when we feel this way, because your life is your responsibility. While we can’t always change what’s outside of us, we can change our perception of it. And the crazy thing is that when you change the way you look at a thing, the thing itself often changes.

  2. Take action.

Think about when your car gets stuck in the snow. What do they tell you to do to get it out? Rock the car back and forth. Initiating small actions backward and forward will eventually lead you out of the snow. The same is true in business. When you are stuck, it means that it is time to take action! Make a start, stop, and continue list. Your start list is the list of activities that you need or want to start doing. This could be as simple as activities to help you de-stress or setting goals for daily income-producing activity. Next, write out a list of all the things that you are doing that you need to stop doing. These are the things that are not serving you and are not helping to move you forward. Lastly, make a list of the activities that you want to continue doing. These are activities or behaviors that are productive and beneficial, bring out the best in you, and provide results in your business.

  3. Delegate.

So many times we think we need to do everything. But the reality is that if it is not serving you and your business, you need to stop doing it. This could be something as simple as cleaning the house. I hired a cleaning person because I realized that I was grumpy every time I cleaned and it was taking away time that I could be using to grow my business. Still, my house needed to be cleaned, so I hired someone. People hire social media managers, virtual assistants, editors, content creators, you name it. For every task that you don’t enjoy doing, there is someone who loves doing it and is likely better at doing because they have a passion for it. Once you delegate, you can use that time to work on growing your business the way only you can!

  4. Track your activities.

Often times people say they are doing everything they can. But when we take a deeper look, they aren’t doing enough of what actually drives their business. Posting on social media, reading self-help books, and listening to training videos, while important activities, do not directly grow your business. Track the amount of income-producing activity that you do in your business every single day. And then do more!

  5. Set goals and work backwards.

Set your goals of where you want your business to be. Then work backwards to determine the amount of work you need to do to achieve those goals. In other words, use your tracked activity to see how much work you need to do to yield results. For example, in network marketing, I may track how many phone conversations I need to get a distributor to join my team. Then I know how many calls I need to do each month to reach my monthly goal.

The bottom line is that it is normal to have times of more and less success in business and in life. But when you are feeling stuck, the number thing to do is to take action! Change your mindset. Start by rejecting the phrase I’m stuck. Then, set your goals and take action to achieve them. Don’t focus on the outcome. Simply focus on the activities and getting them done every single day. When you do the work consistently, you will undoubtedly move forward.
